How to date or marry a med student Monday, April 1, Joining my second Medical Mondays today I loved meeting fellow med students, docs, and medical families last month! In the near future, I’m hoping to write a series on my journey through med school applying, first year, second year, Step I, third year, residency applications At my white coat ceremony almost three years ago poor guy had no idea what he was in for. Stephen lived an hour and a half away from me during my first two years of medical school and would come visit me most weekends.
Unfortunately, most weekends during first and second year were spent studying like a fiend, so he ended up spending more time watching TV with my aunt who I lived with than me when he came to visit. I have a gazillion boxes in our basement right now of books and notes something in me just cannot get rid of my notes from first and second year even though Step 1 is over and I most likely will never, ever look at them again.
Starting in gross anatomy lab, continuing through all aspects of human physiology, and culminating in my OB-GYN rotation. At least he’ll be prepared for our future first babe. This was me after most tests I blame it on my very first anatomy written exam which destroyed many previous years of test-taking confidence.
Stephen actually started to get concerned when I didn’t come home after a test freaking out. The worse of this was after my Step 1 exam. I honestly cried several times per week about how terrible I did for the entire month after the exam while I was waiting to get my results. I love that boy.

April 2 Match Day is the culmination of a grueling process. The Japanese medical university that has acknowledged systematically discriminating against female applicants has announced plans to accept more than 60 who had been unfairly rejected in the past two years. The discriminatory policy at Tokyo Medical University surfaced earlier this year, triggering national outrage. The school acknowledged in August that it has been slashing female applicants’ entrance exam scores for years to keep the female student population low, saying women tend to quit as doctors after starting families.
Kyodo News via AP TOKYO — A Japanese medical university that acknowledged systematically discriminating against female applicants announced Wednesday plans to accept more than 60 who were unfairly rejected over the past two years. The school acknowledged in August that it has been reducing female applicants’ entrance exam scores for years to keep the numbers of female students low.
They said women tend to quit as doctors after starting families, causing staffing shortages at a school-affiliated hospital. The university said it will offer to enroll 67 female applicants who were eliminated due to the exam manipulation. University President Yukiko Hayashi apologized for the school’s discriminatory policy.
The scandal prompted speculation that other medical schools may also follow similar practices. Hayashi, who became university president in September following her predecessor’s resignation over a bribery allegation that led to exposure of the exam manipulation, said she was shocked by the large number of women who were denied entry.
It isn’t clear how many women will accept the school’s offer and enroll. Hayashi declined to comment on what the school will do about dozens of male students who were wrongfully given additional points and accepted instead of the women. The manipulation came to light during an investigation into allegations that the school accepted the son of an education ministry official in exchange for favorable treatment for the school in obtaining research funds.

Second year fellow at a big-city hospital. Thursday, February 23, Tips for Dating Residents In the comments, someone asked for a post with tips for non-medical people to keep in mind when dating residents. I thought this was a fun idea. Residents work long hours. If they are working a late shift or overnight, you win huge points if you offer to bring them food. Even huger points if that food includes a cookie.
Enormous points if you made that cookie yourself. Infinite points if you recognize that even though they tell you they can come down to meet you and grab the food at a certain time, something might come up, and they might be delayed. Maybe even for an hour.

Have had like 12 phone interviews already today, some of these programs are sounding better than the ones I ranked at the top of my list initially though. Hate to blame others but my school offers no help or guidance on the matching process whatsoever. I was pretty naive about the process and basically did not apply enough places and thus I did not have enough interviews or places to rank.
Only applied out west too. Had decent scores, would not think i’m socially awkward, and never thought i would be in this position: I feel like everyone is just screwing with me now. Getting the same deafening silence I got during interview season” 2: As for me, I applied for 27 prelim surg, 7 prelim IM, 1 transitional, all on northeast.
